Crew 249 is our 4th 5th and 6th grade ministry! We have created an environment just for pre-teens! It's a place where kids can hang out, have fun, and get to know how awesome it is to be loved by God!
The name “Crew 249” is taken from Luke 2:49. The setting of this Bible story is that Joseph and Mary are looking for their son Jesus who has been missing for 3 days. Scripture tells us that Jesus was 12 years old at this time, (a close age to the students we are working with). Joseph and Mary finally found the boy Jesus teaching in the Temple with some of the priests. A frustrated Joseph and Mary approached Jesus and essentially asked…Where have you been? Jesus replied in Luke 2:49: “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” We use the name “Crew 249, because 12 years old is not too young to be doing the Fathers business! It is truly our desire to see this generation of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders doing God’s will in their lives.
It has been exciting seeing students fully engaging in the lessons being taught at Crew 249.
We begin each week with an opening challenge. This challenge comes in game form and nearly every week students are encouraged to work as a team to achieve a common goal. At this point the Geek squad is done eating their snack so we move in to devour what is left! (You know how pre-teens can eat!) Directly following that, we move inside to the auditorium where our main session takes place. The main sessions include elements such as, the Bible lesson for the week, some awesome worship songs and a little something we like to call the Dollar or Diaper challenge (sorry... you have to be a crew 249 insider to know what that's all about!). At the end of the main session we have some small group time. In this time the students go in groups of 6 to 8 with a couple of our adult helpers to discuss what was taught in the Bible lesson. The kids enjoy their time, and learn a ton!
Like anything kid-related and successful... the success we've had with Crew 249 is because of the sponsors that make it awesome! We see 30-40 students every week at the crew, and we are sooo excited to see what God is doing in their lives! If you know of any pre-teens... send em our way- God will be happy and so will we!
