The Geek Squad is for kids age 4 through the 3rd grade.
The name Geek Squad originates from the idea of following Jesus even if everyone else is going a different direction. A geek is someone who is unique in a crowd. Likewise the children at Geek Squad learn that it is good to be unique because God has made us all special. We are all created in His image, but we each have something special about us that make us unique. Here at Geek Squad we are proud to stick out because once, a long time ago, Jesus stood out for us.
Geek Squad meets after school on Wednesdays during the school year and has been a big hit since it's beginning! We provide bus transportation from both Jackson Heights schools, and the Holton school district as well. If you would like your child to ride the bus from either of these two schools, call the office at 924.3831 or visit with Tim or Dan, and we'll get you on the list. (Most of the kids ,agree that riding the church bus after school is where the fun begins!) When we get to the church we start things off right with prayer and then a yummy snack. After that...…let the learning begin. We might start with some awesome singing followed by a Bible Story, or vise versa if it serves the lesson being taught for the day. The Bible story is always very hands on and applicable.
At the end of the day, we play an awesome ‘run around’ game. This is the opportunity for kids to run off some of that energy before their parents come to pick them up.
Occasionally, the Geek Squad gets a little crazy with a special event. Every year we have a Fall Fun Day with the Squad. This normally includes an afternoon filled with good food, and a whole lot of fun!!! But don’t forget the search for that one special pumpkin in the pumpkin patch! This year we made a pumpkin patch out behind the church in the weeds, the kids had a blast looking for the perfect pumpkin!
We are really excited for what God is doing in the lives of our Geek Squad students. This is a crucial age for these kids to know that there is a God who loves them and who has a plan for their lives. It is vital that they learn… that no matter what problems they may face in life there is a God who is bigger than their problems. These students learn that God is real and is ready to listen whenever we need Him.
Our success in ministering to these students is in the Awesome Volunteers that come every week… prepared to share their love with these students. We have a super volunteer network that does a great job teaching these youngsters about God. Currently our Geek squad has 40-50 students, but we see new faces nearly every week!!! It is such a blast, that these kids are sooo excited about geek squad, and they talk about it for several days following the program each week. We don’t want anyone to miss out on the experience that takes place at the Geek Squad, so if you're age 4 to 3rd grade, what are you waiting for? Come on down and be a part of what is going on. We are convinced that what happens at Geek Squad will have a lifelong effect on our kids and their relationship with God!
